There are two wireless access points (WLAN) in the University Library:
Eduroam
WPA2-encrypted access to the RUB wireless network. RUB members need their RUB login ID and password to log in. Members of external Eduroam partner institutions log in with the access data of their home institution.
Instructions for the various operating systems can be found in the WLAN information of the Network Operation Centre.
RUB-Guests
The RUB Wireless Local Area Network for guests who authenticate themselves with a LoginID.
After connecting to the RUB-Guests WLAN, you will be shown a login window in which you must enter your login ID and password. Your device will then be activated for 12 hours. Activation can take up to 90 seconds. If the activation fails, switch the WLAN on the end device off and on again. After reconnecting with RUB-Guests, the end device is then automatically activated.
You can view your logged-in devices here.
LAN ports are generally accessible network ports. For legal reasons, however, the LAN ports may only be used by RUB students and members.
A network cable and a RUB LoginID are required to use a LAN port with your own end device. You can bring your own LAN cable or borrow a cable from the information/service desk for a deposit.
Activation takes place via the website https://login.ruhr-uni-bochum.de. Here you will be directed to a secure login where you have to enter your RUB LoginID and your password. Once you have successfully logged in, your device will be authorized for internet use. Further information on the use of LAN ports can be found here.
The University Library has 275 LAN ports distributed in the staircase and in the reading areas on levels 1 to 5. The exact locations can be found in our digital guidance system using the search term "LAN port".
At these computers you can search our catalogues and available subject databases, retrieve full texts, and search the internet. As soon as you access websites outside the RUB domain, you will need to log in with your LoginID. The research workstations are located on level 0 and in the staircase. Some PCs can be found at the high tables in the stacks. The exact locations can be found in our digital guidance system using the search term "for research".
Search results can be saved as a file on a USB storage medium or sent to any e-mail account. There are no printers connected, please use the services of the print centre/copy centre.
Popular software products (including Microsoft Office) are installed on these computers. RUB members can open and edit files they have brought with them or create new documents. They also have access to the eCampus WebClient. Access to the PC pool is via the RUB LoginID.
