The Sultanate of Oman is known for its oases with traditional architecture. Until the 1970s, the majority of the country's population lived in mud houses. Today, these mud-brick houses are largely abandoned and entire neighborhoods have fallen into disrepair.
What significance do these places have in today's Oman? Do they play a role in the identity of the younger generation? Can the cultural heritage be revitalized? An interdisciplinary research team from Ruhr University Bochum (Islamic Studies), Leipzig University (Cultural Studies) and Goethe University Frankfurt/Main (Archaeology) investigated these and other questions. The exhibition shows the results.
